Hi guys, saw this and thought some of you may be blessed by it.
Akanga.
A man went to a barber shop to have his hair and his beard cut as always. He started to have a good conversation with the barber who attended him. They talked about so many things and various subjects..
Suddenly, they touched the subject of God.
The barber said: "Look man, I don't believe that God exists as you say so." "Why do you say that?" - asked the client.
Well, it's so easy, you just have to go out in the street to realize that God does not exist. Oh, tell me, if God existed, would there be so many sick people? Would there be abandoned children? If God existed, there would be no suffering nor pain. I can't think of a God who permits all of these things."
The client stopped for a moment thinking but he didn't want to respond so as to prevent an argument. The barber finished his job and the client went out of the shop. Just after he left the barber shop he saw a man in the street with a long hair and beard (it seems that it had been a long time since he had his cut and he looked so untidy).
Then the client again entered the barber shop and he said to the barber: You know what? Barbers do not exist." "How come they don't exist?"-asked the barber. "Well I am here and I am a barber."
"No!" - the client exclaimed. "They don't exist because if they did there would be no people with long hair and beard like that man who walks in the street."
"Ah, barbers do exist, what happens is that people do not come to me." "Exactly!"- affirmed the client. "That's the point. God does exist, what happens is people don't go to Him and do not look for Him that's why there's so much pain and suffering in the world."

Lets keep a few things straight. Christianity is not a western religion... and neither is it a western concept. We as Africans have every right to be Christians like the westerner's do. And we should refrain from judging Christianity based on the mindsets of those that introduced it to us. Westerners are not a necessary condition for Christianity in Africa. It's between an individual (as opposed to an entire congregation) and God. It's a bout a one-to-one relationship as opposed to "organized religion."
But then, now that we have a better vision of the grand scheme, what are we gonna do? Are we just gonna sit back and allow the blood donation from Africa's veins to proceed? Perhaps it is too late to reverse the tide. Nevertheless, it is better to know the truth than to perish in ignorance.

I strongly agree with Bala that it's about a one-to-one relationship
between an individual and God and that God does exist. So i will not
lead myself into that discussion. However, i will point out that even
among the white guys, there are those who live as God expects them to live
and not all are black sheep. But one thing is clear to me; every man
reaps as he sows.

As sensitive an issue as religion is, it's always not only fun but rather one ends up with a bittersweet feeling after reading through all these posts. However history has had it and the trend still is that we as Africans have either had western culture forced down our throat or placed so much in our faces that we just can't igore it ( LOOK AT THE ROYAL ASCOT GOAT RACE IN MUNYONYO!!! ). Naturally this has not spared religion either, The normal Sunday services that most of us grew up to have quickly been replaced by Mammoth "speakered", trancing Pastored crusade-turned-churhes that have not only been copied from LTV but have also been abused. Don't get me wrong here, I personally am a believer though that shouldn't make me blind to those churches that seemed to have been formed with the sole purpose of minting money from wanainchi who prefer "hipper" services.
It takes us all back to square one. Though slavery was done away with, it still persists to date, the most recent tracks, from the STATES, the most flashy cars, from GERMANY, the sleekest mobile phones ...... the trend goes on and on...... why won't the Multibillion dollar foreign companies grow?
EH! BY THE WAY WHERE'S MY PHONE? AYAAA.. OK HERE IT IS (Have to remember to load airtime) SEE WE ARE ALL STILL SLAVES.
At the end of the day It's One man for himself and God for us all though it's up to each Man to develop his personnal relationship with GOD.

Ba guy this is undoubtedly a one2one relationship with God, fact!!!
This however is not gonna stop me from confessing what i have seen and continue to see with my very own eyes....
The white man has used religion to keep Africa where it is.....he has abused this cause, he has given it a new tag, and needless to mention he hijacked it and this is nothing but absurd.
like i said i am a born again christian and I subscribe to Jesus Christ being the true son of God, hopefully this highlights the fact that i have no doubts about God and His existance.Though I am very doubtful of the white man's intentions in general.... I am not disqualifying eveyone's cause, some are genuinely aiming at spreading the good news of God, but I have to confess, the western world has hijacked the religious ticket to fulfill their ill motives especially in Africa, and for us as the leaders of 2moro, i have to warn....watch out and be wise...

What I am saying is that we should stop looking at westerners as middlemen in the story of Christianity.... "That was then. This is now!" We were reminded that Chistianity evolved from the MIddle-East and not even from the west. So, if I shared the gospel to people in a remote (undiscovered) area of Africa... say for example Chad or the Central African republic (NB: I have to endeavor to remind myself that these countries do exist), it would not make Christianity a Ugandan religion or concept. For that matter looking to spiritual leaders "whole sale" as middlemen in this New Testament era in my opinion is a recipe for disaster. It is up to each individual to search for the truth. I mean, if Gundi goes to a church and gets ripped off.... he/she has him/herself to blame.
International economics is not my domain... but it is quite evident that we Africans are not free in the economic and hence political sence. Development in the west occurs at the expense of underdevelopment in the third world. We Africans finance a huge chunk of the luxury that is enjoyed in the west. Let us not forget that even slavery itself was abandoned not because the westerners were kind or compassionate, but because they found more clever/ingeneous albeit indirect means of enslaving Africans (in their own land) to the present day. There is no such thing as a free lunch... not in a world where resources are limited. This is survival for the fittest and nothing less!

Guys, I think we now have two topics being discussed. One, the West vs. Africa, two, if God exists.
I'll side with Bala that it is an experience not an experiment. Let's take death as an example, for those who don't beleive that God exists, if by the time one dies without experiencing God's power, it is already too late for him/her to tell the experience(of dying)!! For me this is proof that God really exists and further explains why we have no communication with the dead, only God knows!! That is why only those who believe in God "have a picture" of what is to happen after death. Surprisingly the atheists don't!!
Now not only death can explain his existence, you all have studied biology. Doesn't the whole process of man's birth overwhelm you!! The process starts with "mere" fusion of fluids, which turn into a clot of blood, only to become fleshy and bornes come into the picture at a later stage!!
Now all this happens in a space of nine months, with an error margin of a few weeks depending on many factors. Surely no scientist before or in centuries to come will alter this process or even come up with an alternative!!! The variations in this natural process whose results are the lame, those with sickle cells, down's syndromme etc...., albinism, should be further proof that God really exists. Besides you all know that these diseases do not cut across race, whether you are white or black, hispanic, oriental or name it. By the way do the White p'le treat their dead in a different way? No!
So to pile all the blame of Africa's misery on the White man, is a sorry excuse for our own mistakes and lack of ideas.
I can't remember who said that Developing countries can do without foreign aid, all I know is that the statement holds some water!! This can be a topic for discussion and Andre could lead us on this one!
God bless all ya!

Nice to know that you are in town Medi. I usually see Isah coming from the Wandegs mosque (which one do u go 2 ....?) just kidding! !
As per the slavery issue, i think i rather came on strongly there. OK let me rephrase .. ummm ..... dependency! and i hope this time you will not also deny it. It's existent and i must say it's not about to go away. It's just one of those things we have to deal with on a personal level. And as per your response of them coming here to tour, that's simply a leisure activity that they can simply do without.
Looking at our side however, in Kampala, the moment you happen to just switch off your phone, if you are married to a jelous woman she'll think you are cheating, if you are in the transport industry (boda boda, special hire....) you will miss customer, if you are on campus and u are cutting lectures you'll miss a test.... the list goes on and on, moreover that's just one aspect. By now you surely must admit that the dependency is more on our side.
